Argentina Celebrates 209th Anniversary of Declaration of Independence

On 9 July, Argentina celebrates the 209th Anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, which took place in 1816. For Thailand, this celebration takes on special significance as Argentina and Thailand are commemorating throughout 2025 the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

This 209th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence finds Argentina in the midst of a new political phase that began in 2023, marked by our country’s determination to reopen to the world and play an important role within the international community, by facilitating foreign trade and investment.

The economic measures adopted recently are helping to stabilize Argentina’s macroeconomy and lay the groundwork for sustainable growth through the private sector. In this context, the Embassy is inviting Thai companies to explore business opportunities presented by this new Argentina, particularly in sectors such as energy and mining.

As an example, starting in 2027, Argentina will become an exporter of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) through the development of the Vaca Muerta shale gas reserve—located in Argentine Patagonia—which is the second-largest in the world. We are confident that Thailand can become one of the consumers of this LNG, which would allow it to diversify its energy sources and reduce public utility costs.

As mentioned earlier, this Argentine National Day also takes place within the special context of another celebration: the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Argentina and Thailand. It is also worth noting that Argentina—in 1955—was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with Thailand, making us the Kingdom's oldest Latin American partner.

Argentina and Thailand are working to expand our bilateral relationship, which has traditionally been characterised by friendship and mutual understanding across various areas, despite the great geographic distance. In a few weeks, the international cooperation agencies of both countries will meet to approve a new bilateral, technical cooperation plan, and the 6th round of Political and Economic Consultations will also take place in Buenos Aires, covering topics such as nuclear, space and criminal cooperation.

We believe there are opportunities across many fields, for example, in bilateral trade, which currently amounts to USD 1.5 billion. Argentina has tremendous potential to increase its exports to Thailand, as our country is a major food exporter and, now, also an energy exporter. We are also focusing on tourism, inviting Thai citizens to discover Argentina—a country with an incredible variety of landscapes and climates and a world-class cuisine.

Finally, I would like to thank the ongoing collaboration and synergies with the Elite+ team as well as extend my greetings to all of its readers. Happy Argentine National Day and Happy 70th Anniversary of Argentina–Thailand Diplomatic Relations!
